Paideia & T.I.C.L.S.
What is Paideia and how it is related to contemporary education? A question we have had for a forgotten concept.
Paideia is active learning —fostering critical and creative thinking through Socratic dialectics, intellectual coaching, and expert information.
Paideia is high quality education for all —preparing individuals, of all backgrounds, to live up to their potential.
Paideia is preparation for a full life —teaching essential skills so persons can earn a good living, contribute to our democracy, and pursue happiness.
The Greek term paideia refers to the general learning that should be the common possession of all individuals, beyond formal curricula and vocational training.
This perception of education is an ancient one but is becoming pertinent again in our days of global mobility and search of meaning in life. It applies not only in childhood and youth, but also in higher and continuing education.
All citizens deserve the best education that society can provide, one that prepares them for work but also for their roles as citizens and as individuals capable of making cultured use of leisure time.
The Athenian philosophers Socrates and Plato used the concept of Paideia as the Education one could possess within the soul, not only knowledge and skills, but also wisdom to attain a virtuous and cultured reconciliation between the demands of day-to-day life and a higher spiritual life.
T.I.C.L.S has the vision of this Education when developing its Programs.
